80s Weekend 2023 – Our 11th Year!

Experience the bolder Bonaventure with old friends: February 17-20, 2023

Walk-up entry to 80s Weekend events is $25 per person, per event, space permitting.

Enjoy exclusive events planned for 80s alumni (denoted below) along with additional activities as part of Homecoming Weekend:

Friday, February 17

4 – 6 p.m. Bonnies4Bonnies – Join alumni to share your career path with current students and expand their network of support. Meet in the San Damiano Room of Francis Hall.

6 – 9 p.m. Welcome Reception – Enjoy food and drinks at the new Fairway View Pavilion at the St. Bonaventure Golf Course; 3398 NY Route 417/State Road; Cash bar and appetizers sponsored by the Office of Alumni Engagement.

7:30 p.m. – Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts – Music by Fire & Grace with internationally known Flamenco dancer Fanny Ara. To purchase tickets, call 716-375-2494.

All Evening – Continue the 80s Weekend opening evening with drink specials at The Burton, hosted by alumni owners Brian Attea ’89, John Flanagan ’89, Kevin Patwell ’88 and David Przesiek ’88. See if you can stay up for last call and “Piano Man.”


Saturday, February 18

Experience what’s new, and learn about what’s in the works, across campus:

10 a.m. to Noon – Activities include:

  • Friedsman Memorial Library: Rare Books Tour and Open House with Senior Special Collections Librarian Paul Spaeth
  • Café La Verna: Career & Professional Readiness Center Open House – learn how alumni can support students through the Center
  • University Chapel: Secrets of the Stained-Glass Windows with Fr. Ross Chamberland, OFM at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • Jandoli School of Communication: Open House with Dean Aaron Chimbel; Tours at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. plus renderings of the makeover
  • Athletics Update: Athletics Update at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Hall of Fame Room (Reilly Center). Hear about plans for Reilly Center improvements and plans for a new 10,000-square-foot Athletics Performance Center.
  • Francis Hall: Tours at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. of the state-of-the-art DePerro School of Health Professions

9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Richter Center: Check in at the desk and enjoy free access to three gyms, weights, cardio, walking track and more. Invite your old rivals for a game.

All Day On-Campus Dining Options: Hickey Dining Hall has breakfast from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. ($6 per person) and brunch from 10:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. ($9.51 per person). Pay at the door. The RC Café is open from Noon to 8 p.m., now with deli and grill options plus grab-and-go items.

Noon to 1:15 p.m. – Memories, Prayer and Thanksgiving facilitated by 80s alumni, Fr. Dan Riley, ofm, '64, and the Mt. Irenaeus Friars at the McGinley-Carney Center for Franciscan Ministry. Don't miss this annual 80s Weekend highlight which welcomes alumni of all faith traditions.

1:00 p.m. – Men’s Lacrosse Game: Watch the Bonnies, led by Head Coach Randy Mearns, against Binghamton University; Tom '80 & Michelle Marra Sports Complex. No ticket needed.

2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Presidential Happy Hour: Before the women's basketball game, get to know new President Jeff Gingerich and his wife Betsy for a casual reception in the Athletics Hall of Fame. Dr. Gingerich will share a brief campus update and a cash bar will be available. 

4:00 p.m. Women’s Basketball Game – Watch the Bonnies led by Interim Head Coach Erica Morrow, against Atlantic 10 rival VCU; Bob Lanier Court at the Reilly Center. Digital ticket for general admission will be sent in advance. St. Bonaventure University Athletics and the women's basketball program will honor Bonnies greats Kathy Lynch, '81 and Hilary Waltman, '99 with the unveiling of a No. 22 banner, representing the jersey worn by both players at SBU during the game.

7:00 p.m. Post-Game Reception Gather at Four Mile Brewing for brews and great pub food as alumnus Nick Bohdanowycz (’08 MBA) and team roll out the brown and white carpet. Fun includes Tom Schuh ’84 and Buffalo-based Midnight Kings play hits of the decade. The Bona Bus will be running from campus and making stops on-campus, in Allegany and at 4 Mile Brewery from 7-11 p.m. 202 East Green Street, Olean.



Sunday, February 19

10:00 a.m. – Pre-Game Mass in the Rathskeller led by Fr. Ross Chamberland, OFM

11:00 a.m. – Mass: University Chapel or Mt. Irenaeus. 

11:30 – 1:30 p.m. Pre-Game Reception & Grand Re-Opening of the Rathskeller with pregame snacks and cash bar. 

2:00 p.m. – Men’s Basketball Game – Watch the new-look Bonnies, led by Head Coach Mark Schmidt in his 16th season, host A10 opponent George Washington; Bob Lanier Court at the Reilly Center.  Digital ticket will be provided.

4:00 p.m. - Post-Game Reception Meet in the newly renovated ‘Skeller to rehash the game and memories with old friends.


Monday, February 20

President’s Day Holiday. Farewells and safe travels home!

Optional trip to Mt. Irenaeus on your own

80s Weekend Package:
$130 per person (includes a Bonnies Athletic Fund donation of $100)

No refunds will be issued for 80s Weekend.

Package includes all specially planned events and activities plus game ticket (digital) for women’s basketball and men’s basketball games.

Digital Tickets and QR Code Ticket for 80s pre-game reception will be emailed in advance.
